“It Had to be OUD…”

For those of you with curly/wavy/frizzy locks, you’ve just hit the hair care trifecta!

I have finally found a shampoo, conditioner and styling product that allow me to ‘wash and go’ without incurring a huge, frizzy, shapeless mess atop of my head. Gone are the days of me sleeping on my freshly shampooed hair so as to reduce its volume by morning.

Fluffy headed people rejoice, because there is a cure for you…

Your hair will never look like this again (see above photo). This victory does however come at a hefty price, but I assure you as someone who never needed to tease their hair in the 80’s to achieve volume, these items are well worth their price.

Drumroll please….

Philip B has created the Oud Royal line of hair care products that has revolutionized my hair routine. The 3 products I am praising today are:  Oud Royal Forever Shine Shampoo, Oud Royal Forever Shine Conditioner and lastly but certainly not least Oud Royal Mega Curl Enhancer. All of these products are available at Ricky’s NYC, SpaceNK Apothecary, Bergdorf Goodman and most other high-end department stores.

There are a multitude of reasons why you’ll love these products, but here are my favorites. Unlike other “anti-frizz” hair care products, these don’t just fight frizz, all 3 help shape your curls, making them lighter, bouncier and much more manageable. The scent is out of this world, I leave my house without perfume because my hair smells that good and it lasts all day. My hair even looks good the next day, which is virtually unheard of where my hair is concerned.

I’m all about the options, and Philip B’s Oud Royal line has them in spades. The conditioner can be used as a leave in if your hair is really coarse or dry and the shampoo can be left on for a few minutes for a deeper treatment. All 3 of these items have multiple uses depending upon your hair type, read the back of each item to get the best performance out of each product.

I can honestly say my hair (and I) have never been happier.

Happy Hair = Happy Human!

Happy shopping y’all…xo Elisa

Summer Lovin’…

Remember when the school year finally ended and a great summer adventure awaited you?

Whether you went to summer camp or vacationed with your family, there always seemed to be some cute boy or girl who seemed to occupy your heart and mind for those two blissful months.

It’s time to fall in love again, but this time it’s with this todays recommended product!

Trish McEvoy Face Shapers is my current obsession and I’m pretty sure it will be yours too.  If you buy 1 make up product this summer, this should be the one.  For $75 you are getting 4 products in one amazing mirrored compact.

Everything about this item is perfection, firstly it comes in 2 color choices (aptly named 1 and 2) so there’s no drama about which one to buy. I use the one on top (see the pic below) as its for light to medium toned skin, the bottom is for a darker complexion or if you’re going for a more golden/bronze look. What you get in this miracle compact is all your face will ever need to achieve a perfect summer glow. The top tier contains a bronzer and a highlighter, while the bottom has the most amazing, natural looking blush and a face finishing powder. What really makes this product top-notch is the “how to” manual inside that guides you through all 4 steps, making each item impossible to use incorrectly.

When applied the way Trish recommends, you actually look like you’re glowing from the inside out. I cannot say enough about how much I’m loving this item.  As for wearability… this stuff stays on all day, I don’t even need a touch up if I’m going out after work.

So unlike the love’s of summer’s passed, there’s no heartbreak here! Just a great product to help you look amazing all summer long…

Kumbaya y’all…

Nailing It!

So you’re rocking that cute outfit you bought the other day, your accessories are perfection but something is missing. Since you work full-time, you don’t always have the luxury of that weekly manicure that others seem to benefit from, no worries, TisB has got you covered.

I have discovered the best item to help “polish” off your look.  Dior Nail Glow is that product. Not only will it save you money (on manicures) it’ll save you time. With 1 coat it enhances the pink of your nail beds and the whites of your tips, all while providing a just manicured shine. For $24 this item is a rock star. No need for a base or top coat, just 1 or 2 coats of this fast drying polish and you are good to go. You can apply it just before walking out the door and by the time you get to work you’re dry and well manicured.

Also the brush is shaped differently than other polishes, instead of getting wide when it makes contact with your nail bed, the brush is designed in a similar shape to your nail which makes application a breeze.  I am the farthest thing from ambidextrous and even I can apply it easily (trust me that is saying a lot).

So “glow” forth with well manicured nails and bank all that tip money you’ve just saved!

You’re welcome… 🙂

This is what I do, making the world a better place, 1 product at a time..

“As Time Goes By…”

Father’s Day is this Sunday.  So today’s post is going to honor my father by linking what I do here to his favorite movie. In November of 1942 Casablanca was introduced to the world. To this day it is still heralded as one of the greatest films of all time. It made a superstar out of Ingrid Bergman, reminded the world that Humphrey Bogart was a helluva leading man, turned Herman Hupfeld’s “As Time Goes By” into an American Standard and gave us a plethora of famous movie quotes.  For me, however it will always be my dad’s favorite movie.

So, without further ado I bring you today’s recommended product:  Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color in Casablanca, available at most high-end department stores around the globe. In Canada you can find them at Holt Renfrew. I’ve given a nod to his Cherry Lush in VD, but Casablanca is by far and away the best neutral lipstick you will ever find. Tom Ford’s lipsticks are like none you’ve ever used before. Their texture is smooth because of something called Brazilian murumuru butter, they feel more like a lip treatment than a lipstick, they are so highly pigmented that you need very little to achieve pout perfection and their scent is out of this world.  Your lips will never look or feel better, I assure you.

So while picking out your soap-on-a-rope or Burberry tie for your Pop, treat your pout to something special too.

Mother Nature was Not Cooperating!

Months ago, after returning from a 10 day beach vacation I stumbled upon a dress that needed to be mine.  The reddish/coral color of the dress looked so good against my bronzed skin that even though I had absolutely nowhere to wear this dress, I could not bear to leave it behind.

Wedding season is here  and now said dress has a purpose.  I have a wedding this weekend but sadly, my bronzed body is m.i.a. I assumed that by the end of May the sun would have had plenty of opportunity to kiss my face (…and arms and legs) but not a chance.  By last weekend I was panicking and had to take matters into my own hands.

I have never, nor will I ever lie on a tanning bed so that was never an option.  I’ve watched way too many episodes of Dancing with the Stars to know that orange is not my color, so the spray tan was out. Drastic measures had to be taken and I succumbed to the “fake bake” creams/gels that every cosmetic company seems to offer nowadays.  What I did not expect however was the awesome results they provided.

Up until this point I’d been a sunless tanning virgin, so I thought it best to go with a skin care line that had been around awhile.  Clarins was that company.  I went with their Liquid Bronze Self Tanning for my face and their Self Tanning Instant Gel for my body.  My concerns were that my face would break out and that my body would turn orange.  Both concerns were moot, I’m zit free and golden hued, and couldn’t be happier.

clarins face sunless tanner

clarins body tanning gelI am going to share with you however important information about how to use these products so that you can “fake it til you make it” too.

#1.  Exfoliate before applying them, you want your skin to be as smooth as possible so that it goes on evenly.  I mean if you’re gonna fake it, you may as well fake perfection and not a blotchy tan.

#2.  Moisturize before applying sunless tanner, let your skin dry and then apply it evenly all over.

#3. Don’t forget the back of your hands and feet (if you do you’ll look ridiculous, not that I would know anything about that).

#4.  Apply the Liquid Bronze Self Tanning (face product) with a cotton pad.  The more you apply the deeper the shade.

#5.  Don’t expect instant results.  If you too have a wedding this weekend and are feeling pasty it’s probably too late.  I started one week in advance and I know by Sunday I’ll look like I just came back from St Barth’s (don’t I wish).

#6.  Don’t put clothes on immediately after applying the stuff, let it sink in for a few minutes.  I have not noticed any stains on my clothes, but I have been waiting before dressing.

#7.  Wash your hands well after applying!!!

So there you have it!  That’s my recipe for showing Mother Nature that she’s not the boss of my tan!!!

Happy Wedding Season Y’all…xo Elisa

The “New” Orgasm…

For what seems like forever, no matter what magazine’s ‘best of beauty’ issue you read, they all name Nars Cosmetics’ Orgasm blush as the best universal blush out there.

What? Where did you think I was going with the title?

Much like the “one size fits all” claim, one size generally never fits no one, properly. Nars’ Orgasm blush is no exception to this. It is a beautiful coral color that would flatter anyone with pale skin and gorgeous golden undertones, but that is not moi.

So leave it to me to go out and find the single exception to the one blush fits all category. Dior Rosy Glow Awakening Blush is that product. Once again when science and haute couture meet, amazing things happen for your skin. This super, bright, pink, Dior logo embossed powder, comes in a beautiful silver compact with a brush you can actually use.  Somehow this powder reacts with your skins body chemistry and creates that perfect flush of color unique to your skin-tone. If I hadn’t seen it work on someone else’s cheeks I never would have believed it.  dior glow blush

A little goes a long way with this product, plus the color grows gradually on your cheeks.  I’ve been using it for weeks now and I haven’t even made a smudge on the Dior logo. I carry it with me at all times in case I need an after work pick me up. Plus with the great little brush and mirror that come in the compact I am always ready to go.

At $44 us dollars you’re getting a really great product, that travels well and is essentially unique to you.  So say goodbye to your Orgasm (from Nars) and hello to haute couture cheeks.

Happy Friday y’all…xo Elisa

Brangelina, Tomkat, Speidi…

I rue the day that “Bennifer” became an active word in our society.  Granted, it was a very cute/clever way to announce to the world the romantic coupling of Jennifer Lopez (J-Lo) and Ben Affleck, but it didn’t stop there.  Society has clung so tightly to that model that we now hybrid just about everything.  We all know someone with cankles, or have sported a pair of jeggings, or wish we never saw anyone wearing meggings, yikes…  Word blending is everywhere and with no good reason.  Of course today that is going to change.

In 1985 (long before Bennifer were even acquainted with one another) the word Cosmeceutical came to be.  Cosmetics with pharmaceutical properties are known as cosmeceuticals and I quite frankly am a huge fan of them. They cannot replace annual visits to your dermatologist, but they can make your skin look fabulous in between.

Fine lines and wrinkles (flinkles?) are today’s topic and I have 2 products that are going to change their place on your face. Cold Plasma and High Potency Evening Repair are two cosmeceutical treatments Dr. Perricone MD has perfected to help diminish the signs of aging on  your skin. If I didn’t see the difference on my very own face I really wouldn’t believe it.

High Potency Evening Repair ($98 available at sephora.com and directly at perriconemd.com) uses the highest levels of non-irritating retinol available for an over the counter cosmetic product.  I used to fear retinol because I have sensitive skin and had heard how it burns and dries the skin out. Absolutely not the case here, it goes on smooth with zero reaction and I wake up with skin that is baby soft and beautifully bright.  I liked it so much it got me curious to try Cold Plasma ($115 also available at sephora.com and perriconemd.com), which claims to correct the 10 most visible signs of aging.  I am fully aware that nothing can erase the damage done, but I will tell you this, since the age of 9 my forehead has always had lines.  They’ve deepened with age (I think alot…I mean all the time), they won’t go away unless I use some form of Botox (which is not going to happen any time soon) but since Cold Plasma has entered my life, those lines have diminished and I couldn’t be happier.  I am still a big thinker but I no longer waste time thinking about the lines on my face.

I know both items are pricey.  You absolutely do not need both but both provide astonishing results.  Also remember you can order from perriconemd.com and save 10% with their auto-replenishment service.

So there you have today’s double recommendation. I hope you thought it was trawesome (truly awesome)! 😉

Happy Friday Y’all…xo Elisa

Liner Notes…

Typically, “Liner notes” are the blurbs found inside album covers (or for the younger generation: CD cases/iTunes Digital booklet) where  artists  thank various contributors, friends/family and anyone else who aided emotionally or financially in the making of the album.  We don’t make music here at TRUTHisBEAUT-E, but today’s product recommendation will have you singing my praises and the praises of its creator.  Trish Mcevoy Intense Gel Eye liner is today’s featured product.

For years I have searched for the perfect eye liner (this may sound like an exercise in futility to many of you…so be it), one that doesn’t run down my face or smudge during application. Not until I discovered Trish’s revolutionary Intense Gel Eye Liner and her suggested application technique have I ever been even close to satisfied.  Cut to Liner perfection.

It comes in 3 shades (Arabian Nights-a midnight blue, Deep aubergine- a rich brown and Black) which are universally flattering for all skin tones and eye colors.  With my brown eyes and brown hair, I use Deep aubergine just about every day and the Black in the evening but I would absolutely use the Arabian nights for a swanky soiree out.

What I love about Trish Mcevoy makeup is that your face looks like you, only better.  Her concept isn’t about changing your appearance, it’s about enhancing and defining what is already there.  She knows you’re already gorgeous, she just helps you know it too.

Intense Gel Eye Liner will set you back $28, but each liner comes with a sharpener and a smudge tip on the other end (which is great for blending).  It is also rich in pigment so I find I don’t use as much as I used to with other liners.  Using her dotted technique really helps the product longevity also.  When you click on the link above you will not only get directed to her website you will also be able to watch video’s on how to apply her products properly.  Imagine having a private makeup lesson taught by Trish.

So in my liner notes I’d like to thank Trish Mcevoy for helping me to look my best and to all of you for your continued support and readership…xo Elisa

Intense Gel Eye Liner

noun : pathological fear or loathing of spiders.

I have this… I am certain…my fear of spiders large and small is completely irrational and it paralyzes me.  Which may explain my equally irrational fear of False Eyelashes, I mean come on…it’s like strategically placing little hairy spiders on your eyelids.  Quite frankly the whole concept freaks me out.

I do however love the look of  long, separated, glamorous lashes.  With wedding/prom season upon us I have the solution to getting gorgeous glam lashes without terrorizing the arachnophobes around you.  It’s a two-stepped system but it works, I promise you.

So today’s tag-team recommendation in order of application are:  #1  Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara ($28.50 at Sephora.com) and #2  Givenchy Noir Couture 4 in 1 ($32 at Sephora.com) .  This Dynamic Duo will transform your everyday lashes into works of art.

#1 (Dior) features a rounded brush that promises volume and curl while #2  (Givenchy) has a brush that fits into the corners of your eyes so that every lash gets treated.  Both formulas offer even application and are fortified with nutrients so that your lashes don’t clump, break or lose their luster. Plus neither texture is heavy, so your lashes never feel weighed down.

If all that isn’t enough to get you to switch, think of me, your poor little arachnophobic blogger who has many a time bared witness to tiny little spider-like lashes trying to escape down’s someones face.  It ain’t pretty…

So happy spring/summer event season, be it proms, weddings, graduations whatever the occasion, Lash Out with confidence!

The Picture of Dorian Gray…

Oscar Wilde was on to something.  In theory, this is a brilliant concept, a portrait aging in a closet while the subject’s youth remains intact.  In practice however it’s not really something that’s going to happen anytime soon.  Of course if you think that it is something remotely plausible, anti-aging is the least of your worries…

Cut to today’s hot topic, you got it…anti aging!  Origin’s Plantscription line of skin care. Yes, I am talking about the entire line from Cleanser to Serum to Moisturizer and that includes eyes and face.  I have yet to endorse a full line from any company but I have to tell you I use it all and I love the results I’m seeing.

To start with, the cleanser is incredibly gentle and doesn’t dry out your skin.  It also doesn’t leave behind a sticky film like some cleansers do.  That super dry feeling we often associate with clean skin is in fact what is speeding up the aging process.  Your skin shouldn’t be stripped of moisture, it should be hydrated so that your skin looks supple and well, more youthful.  Think of your face like a sponge, when it is devoid of water it’s hard and rough but saturated in water and suddenly the same sponge is softer and plumper, like good skin should be.

Now for the big guns, the Serum and Moisturizer with SPF 25 protection (which comes in an oil free version by the way).  Serum works in tandem with your moisturizer, essentially serum preps the skin to allow the moisturizer to really do it’s thing.  This one happens to protect your skin from further environmental damage (harmful UV rays) and improve your skins firmness.

In my life I’ve laughed, I’ve cried and I’ve earned every line on my face.  Every tear and giggle has made me who I am today, and I am grateful for all of it (well the laughter at least) but that doesn’t mean I can’t strive to have the healthiest skin possible.

So say goodbye to dry sponges and hello to anti-aging amazement!

Enjoy…xo Elisa
